Firm, meaty tuna is the perfect fish for those who don’t like fish! We sell two types of fresh tuna steaks: delicate, fine-fleshed Albacore and darker, richer Yellowfin, both available prepacked and on our fish counters in store.
How to cook tuna steak
Make sure you don’t overcook tuna steak. It’s best to cook it quickly over a high heat, or slowly over a very gentle heat.
Bake
Wrap tuna steaks in foil with seasoning and a drizzle of olive oil, or place in a casserole dish with a little white wine or stock. Cover and cook in a preheated oven at 200°C, gas mark 6, for 15–20 minutes, or until tender.
Pan-fry
Fry tuna fillets in olive oil over a high heat for approximately 2 minutes on each side. The fish should be opaque on the outside but slightly pink in the middle.
Griddle
Put a griddle pan over a high heat. Lay the tuna steaks in the pan and cook for about 2 minutes on each side, until opaque on the outside but slightly pink in the middle.
BBQ
Preheat the barbecue to medium-high. Cook the tuna steaks for 3-4 minutes on each side, until opaque on the outside but slightly pink in the middle.
