TERMS & CONDITIONS

These terms and conditions set out the basis on which Waitrose Ltd, trading as Waitrose Cookery School ('Waitrose Cookery School', ‘Waitrose", 'us', ‘we', 'our'), will provide services to you and anyone you book a class for.

By booking a class with Waitrose Cookery School, you agree to accept these terms and conditions on behalf of yourself and anyone else you make a booking for. You shall ensure that anyone else is provided with a copy of these terms and conditions.        

Class terms and conditions

  • Waitrose Cookery School agrees to provide the cookery classes with reasonable care and skill.
  • You are responsible for ensuring that the details you submit on the booking form are correct and up to date. In particular, you must inform us of any food allergies or dietary requirements. You must notify us of any changes to your details. Where you a booking a class for someone else (including for a child) you will be responsible for confirming that the allergy and food requirements information is correct.
  •   Except in relation to ‘Children’s Classes’ and ‘Family Classes’, discussed below, you must be at least 16 years old to attend one of our classes. By submitting a booking form you warrant that at the time of the cookery class you, and anyone else you are booking for, will be 16 years old or over. Waitrose Cookery School reserves the right to require proof of age at the commencement of your cookery class, and to refuse attendance if you do not have proof of age. Exceptions to the age requirements for a class will be by prior written agreement from the Waitrose Cookery School only. A child from the age of 12 to 15 is welcome on our courses when accompanied by an adult over the age of 18 who also purchases a place on the course.
  • Classes may include alcoholic beverages. Waitrose Cookery School reserves the right to ask for proof of age before serving alcohol. If proof of age is not available, no alcohol will be served, but a selection of soft drinks may be. We observe the Challenge 25 policy; see www.challenge25.org for more information.
  • You may be offered the opportunity to purchase a chef’s knife as part of booking your class at the Waitrose Cookery School. You must be aged 18 or over to purchase a knife. If you elect to purchase a knife, this will be provided in person at your chosen class. Waitrose Cookery School reserves the right to ask for proof of age before providing the knife to you. If no proof of age is provided we may cancel the sale and refund you the purchase price of the knife.
  • Whilst we will endeavour to provide the cookery classes in accordance with our promotional materials, we reserve the right to make variations to the dishes.
  • Nothing in these terms and conditions affects or limits your statutory rights.
  • Your booking is non-transferable.

The contract between you and Waitrose Cookery School is governed by English law and shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

What’s included

We will provide the ingredients, utensils, knives, equipment and aprons for all classes. In addition, recipe cards for all classes.

Allergens

Although every care is taken to avoid cross-contamination with other allergens, due to the nature of the operation there is a risk that food prepared/served on site may contain other allergens not specified. 

Health and safety

All participants should wear shoes with flat soles and covered toes. We are not liable for any damage which occurs to clothing. Long hair must be tied back in the kitchen. All participants will receive a short briefing on health and safety, and asked to fill out a health questionnaire before commencing the class.

You agree to:

  1. adhere to the health and safety requirements set out in the handout;
  2. obey any instructions given to you by your tutor;
  3. maintain a reasonable standard of cleanliness; and
  4. maintain a reasonable standard of safe behaviour.

If you have recently been unwell and experienced vomiting or diarrhoea, you must not attend the Cookery School unless you have been clear of symptoms for at least 48 hours prior to commencement of your class. If you are unable to attend due to illness, then you must contact the relevant school before the scheduled start time to cancel your place, and we will offer you a transfer to a future class, at the time of cancellation, at no cost to you.

Please be aware that the King's Cross school uses induction hobs, which may interfere with pacemakers.

Liability

If we fail to provide the services in accordance with these terms and conditions Waitrose Cookery School will only be responsible to you for damage you suffer which is a foreseeable result of us breaking this contract. We shall not have any liability to you for:

  1. accidental damage or injury resulting from the actions or omissions of anyone attending the class (except where this arises from the negligence of Waitrose or our employees);
  2. any loss of income or revenue, loss of profits or contracts; or
  3. any damages or losses that you may suffer as a result of our breach of contract or negligence which are not foreseeable.

If you are purchasing services from Waitrose Cookery School in your capacity as a business Waitrose shall not be liable to you for any indirect or consequential losses.

This does not exclude or limit in any way our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any matter which it would be illegal for us to exclude our liability which if you are a consumer only, shall include our failure to provide services with reasonable skill and care.

Booking and payment

Booking must be made through Eventbrite who will process your order and provide confirmation.

Payment must be made in full at the time of booking. All fees quoted are inclusive of VAT.

Children’s classes

Waitrose Cookery School may offer classes specifically aimed at children and young adults (“Children’s Classes”). The safety and enjoyment of the children attending these classes are of upmost importance to the Waitrose Cookery School. These additional terms apply to any such Children’s Class:

  • Attendees of the class must be within in the ages specified for the relevant class on the date the class takes place.
  • Every child attending a class must be accompanied by a parent/guardian over the age of 18. The parent/guardian must:
  1. provide and confirm the dietary requirements and allergies of the attendee;
  2. register the attendee at the Waitrose Cookery School welcome desk;
  3. provide and confirm a contact telephone number for themselves which will be used in case of emergency or other need to contact the parent/guardian during or after the class;
  4. remain at the Waitrose Cookery School (or in the adjoining Waitrose store) for the duration of the class as directed by the Waitrose Cookery School staff;
  5. collect the attendee, and sign them out, at the end of the class. In some instances, by agreement, older children may be allowed to leave the cookery school without the parent/guardian, in which case the parent/guardian will be required to sign to acknowledge their agreement; and
  6. not take photos of other children attending the class.

Parents/guardians will not be allowed to attend the class except in special circumstances. If the attending child has any need or requirement which means they may need special provision or your attendance at the class please contact the Waitrose Cookery School in advance of the class.

Family classes

Waitrose Cookery School may offer classes specifically aimed at families (‘Family Classes’). These additional terms apply to any such Children’s Class:

  • To attend Family Classes you must be over 18 (as the parent or guardian) and the attending child(ren) must be between 7-12 on the date of the class.
  • The attending adult will be responsible for the child at all times. In particular the parent/guardian must complete the health questionnaire on behalf of the child and confirm the dietary requirements and allergies of the child attendee.

Family Classes are subject to any additional requirements advertised in relation to a particular class.

Cancellations and refunds

Cancellations by us

If we cancel the class for any reason we will seek to organise an alternative date within a reasonable period of time. If this is not possible, or you are unable to attend an alternative date, we will refund the full purchase price.

Cancellations by you

Cancellations by you with prior notice of more than 14 working days from the class date will mean that you will be fully refunded the fee paid.

Cancellations by you with prior notice of between 14 and 8 working days from the class date will mean that the class will be transferred to another Waitrose Cookery School class nominated by you (subject to availability), but that no refund will be offered.

Cancellation by you with prior notice of 7 working days or less from the class date will mean that the class will still be charged at the full fee, no alternative class shall be offered in these circumstances.

You must provide the worldpay transaction ID (provided to you when the class was initially booked) when requesting a cancellation; we reserve the right not to process any cancellations where you are unable to provide this information.

Privacy and personal Information

We will process any personal data you may submit to us, whether through the Booking Form, Health Questionnaire or otherwise, strictly in accordance with our Privacy Notice.

We will process your health and allergy information obtained at the time of booking and will also ask you to complete a Health Questionnaire before or during the class. We will process this personal information for the purposes of tailoring and providing the class to you, in accordance with your consent.

We may contact you via email following the event / class for feedback about your experience.

Online dispute resolution

Any questions regarding these terms and conditions or if you have any subsequent issues or complaints these should be raised at the Cookery School where your class is booked, or may be directed to:

Discount codes

Promotional discounts are published from time to time. A published ‘Discount Code’ will be for a specified value. The Discount Code must be quoted at the time of booking to validate the corresponding discount value, subject to the following terms:

  • The Discount Code must be quoted at the time of booking. No promotional discount will be available after the booking is confirmed, for instance where the Discount Code has not been quoted at the booking stage, and this cannot be added to a booking later.
  • Discount Codes cannot be used in conjunction with myWaitrose discount, Partner discount, or any other offer.
  • Discount codes may be used for any 2 hour classes priced at £65, 3 hour classes priced at £95 and 5 hour classes priced at £155 for our Kings Cross school, excluding children’s classes, demonstrations and supper clubs.
  • No promotional discount may be used when purchasing Waitrose Cookery School gift cards.
  • No promotional discount will be available in respect of corporate or bespoke bookings.

Gift cards

This section relates to gift cards purchased from a Waitrose Cookery School or through the Waitrose website. Any gift cards or vouchers purchased through a third party website shall be subject to their own terms and conditions.

A Waitrose Cookery School Certificate may be redeemed against any Waitrose Cookery School class(es) booked by phone on 020 8158 4355 or online at the Waitrose Cookery School before the expiry date quoted on the Certificate. Waitrose Cookery School classes booked using a Certificate will be subject to the terms and conditions applicable to the class.

Each Certificate may only be used once and is valid for a full year from the date of purchase.

A Certificate is redeemed (a) by expressly quoting the Certificate number if a Waitrose Cookery School Class is booked by telephone or in person (if Waitrose Cookery School, in its absolute discretion, agree to accept such bookings in person), or (b) by filling in the appropriate box of the online booking form if a booking is made online.

If the class(es) booked total less than the value of the gift cards used, any remaining balance will remain on the card to use on a future class.

A gift card may not be used for any other goods or services. A gift card may not be exchanged for cash.

Customers redeeming a gift card towards a virtual class will need to purchase the ingredients prior to the class.

No Partnership discount, myWaitrose discount or other offer (unless expressly stated) can be used when purchasing or redeeming a gift card.

If you no longer want the gift card, then the gift card may be refunded on any day up to the fourteenth day after the day on which the gift card was purchased. Refunds will only be credited to the purchaser of the gift card and, if purchased by card, only to the card on which the purchase was originally made.
