We’re proud to be raising the benchmark for animal welfare, with many of our continental deli meats winning awards from Compassion in World Farming. Explore what the awards mean below

Award-winning Italian charcuterie

Our own-label Italian deli meats, such as Milano Salami, Prosciutto Crudo and Prosciutto Di Parma, come from the Lombardy and Emilia Romagna regions of Northern Italy. The farmers who rear the pigs have won awards from Compassion in World Farming for their commitment to improve pig and sow welfare, including the Good Pig Award and Good Sow Commendation, which is a first for Italy. This means pigs are going to have larger living spaces and straw bedding, and the sows give birth freely

The suppliers of our own-label Ibérico deli meats, such as Waitrose Cooks’ Ingredients Diced Chorizo, No.1 Ibérico De Bellota Selection and No.1 Hand Carved Jamón Ibérico De Bellota have won a Good Pig Award for their commitment to improve pig and sow welfare – a first for Spain. The Ibérico pigs give birth freely indoors or outdoors, then are able to roam outside, eating acorns between October and February
