The People's Potato

Roots of UNITY

the story behind The People’s Potato

The People’s Potato campaign was the creation of Megan, Zaina and Oswald, participants in the Create Not Hate project. Founded by Trevor Robinson OBE, Create Not Hate aims to help young people who are underrepresented in the creative industries unlock their potential.

The CREATIVES

The Candidates - Megan

MEGAN, 24

“I’m excited to be able to tell everyone, that was me!

"I feel very proud of what we’ve achieved – being there at the very start, and seeing the idea blossom, and experiencing all the different aspects of bringing the campaign to life.”

The Candidates - Zaina

zaina, 19

“The programme has given me a better perspective of what working in a media environment is.

"In terms of building a media career, it’s given me confidence that I’m going in the right direction, and that I have potential. I’m excited to discover what else is out there.”

The Candidates - Oswald

OSWALD, 18

“I thought the brief was an interesting opportunity to explore what makes Britain Britain.

"Despite being seen as a very British vegetable, the potato is used in dishes around the world. So our idea was to play on that meaning – of how Britain includes the cultures it has assimilated over the years.”

The Candidates - Ellie

ELLIE, 23

“Being involved with Create Not Hate has meant the world to me – it’s given me an opportunity I’ve been desperate for.

"I’ve had so many doors slammed in my face due to graduating in the middle of a pandemic, and my lack of experience – but now I have that experience, and a sense of reinforced confidence.”
