What foods are high in fibre?

The best high fibre foods include wholegrain cereals, beans, pulses, nuts, seeds, fruit and vegetables (including the skins). To get more fibre in your daily diet, start with a high fibre breakfast and swap to wholegrain versions of everyday foods where possible, like brown rice, wholewheat pasta or wholemeal bread

What is fibre?

There are two types of fibre - insoluble and soluble. Insoluble fibre is found in cereals and is good for our digestive health. Soluble fibre is found in oats, barley, beans, pulses, fruit and vegetables and is broken down in the gut by beneficial bacteria which can help to reduce cholesterol. Oats for breakfast anyone?

How much fibre per day?

We should all aim to eat at least 30g fibre a day and the easiest way to ensure we get there is to start the day with a high fibre breakfast cereal. From wheat bran to oats, from clusters to flakes, the variety is never ending. Pick a breakfast cereal packed with fibre to get you off to a good start.
